Mr. Wheeler

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year, one in which Sonrise is beginning to look very different. We have been blessed with an influx of new students, teachers, and facility upgrades that Mr. Mendoza works incredibly hard on.

As the school changes, responsibilities sometimes shift as well. For example, after 12 years of teaching, I am now almost entirely out of the classroom and working as Dean of Students as a part of the Administrative Team. It’s an exciting change for me personally, and I know God has great things in store for us at Sonrise going forward. I hope to be a part of His plan however I can.
This summer was also life-changing for me in that I became a dad for the first time. My wife Michelle and I welcomed a baby boy, Mason, in June. It was everything that was promised us and more—little sleep, little expertise, and a lot of patience. One thing I have learned through the process is that even when I feel like I’m at the end of my own rope or idea of what to do, I am not allowed to give up; my son needs me.

In life a lot of times we get to the end of our rope. We run out of patience, energy, ideas or ways to handle people or situations. In these situations, we actually do have a choice. We can try to do it on our own, we can give up and quit, or we can turn to the ultimate source of strength and wisdom: our heavenly father. It is exactly in these moments of weakness that he wants to give us strength. And sometimes it takes us getting there to realize that we cannot do it on our own without him.

Whatever is going on in your life right now, I pray you remember you are never alone. God is waiting patiently for us to call on him, both in weakness and in strength.

I look forward to getting to know all of you better. Please feel free to reach out to me for any needs you might have.

God Bless,

JT Wheeler
Dean of Students
