MIDDLE SCHOOL

At Sonrise Christian School, we are committed to partnering with parents to help lay a solid foundation in the lives of our young people. We provide an environment that fosters the development of responsibility and independence. MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM (6TH - 8TH)

In addition, middle school students are able to choose among several elective classes, allowing them to enrich their academic courses with subjects of particular interest. Elective classes that have been offered in the past include Beginning Spanish, Chapel Acting, Cooking, Dance, Math Workshop, Military History, Photography, Rocketry, Set Design, Newspaper, 3-D Art, and Yearbook. A strong academic program is coupled with many on and off-campus activities. This enables our students to grow spiritually, socially, and academically. MIDDLE SCHOOL SERVICE PROGRAM

Students in the 7th and 8th grades are required to complete 30 hours of community service each year. The purpose of this service program is to provide junior high students with opportunities to:

1. Grow in compassion for those who are in need. (Romans 15:1)

2. Be challenged to respond to the needs of others. (Matthew 25:31-46)

3. Gain a sense of responsibility to be a servant of God. (Galatians 6:2)

4. Be a testimony to others. (John 13:12-17)

Students may earn service hours at their church, a hospital, library, retirement home, on a mission trip, with a city volunteer program, service club, sports league, or a variety of other places and ways. Sonrise provides opportunities for our students to serve other organizations such as the Fred Jordan Mission and Operation Christmas Child. Students may earn up to 5 hours of service by helping with school-sponsored events and by serving on campus.

A student who completes 50 or more hours of service in one school year will receive a certificate for the “Servant’s Towel Award” at the end of each year. At graduation, the students are honored by the presentation of a gold stole for one year at the Servant’s Towel level, and the addition of a gold cord for both years at the Servant’s Towel level.

MORE THAN JUST ANOTHER MIDDLE SCHOOL

Here are three ways that we stand out:

1. ACCREDITED: Sonrise is governed by an independent board of directors and is one of the few schools that is accredited by both the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). We maintain this dual accreditation, which means a higher level of accountability and a rigorous evaluation process to ensure the highest academic standards.

2. MISSIONAL: Our mission is to create an environment in which children can experience the love of Jesus as they grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and people.

3. COMMITTED: Sonrise Christian School is committed to teaching the heart as well as the mind. We know that the task of shaping lives is a call of ultimate significance. When one sees the potential inherent in a child, teaching becomes less of a profession and more of a sacred call. The heart of teaching must be to help children discover their own strengths, gifts, and passions; to engage their boundless capacity to think, feel, explore, and understand.
