Friends who live in other parts of the country often ask me how we deal with “all the earthquakes” in California. As someone who has lived here for a while, I know they happen far less often than others think, and yet we California residents have made a conscious choice to live on ground that could certainly be called shaky!
Of the many metaphors I’ve heard used to describe life (a rollercoaster, a journey, a bowl of cherries), one that best fits my current view of my own life and the world around me these days is shaky ground. So many things feel unexpected and the future feels uncertain. With this idea already in mind, I thoroughly enjoyed our chapel song selection this morning:
Christ is my firm foundation,
The rock on which I stand.
When everything around me is shaken;
I've never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus;
'Cause He's never let me down.
He's faithful through generations.
So why would He fail now?
He won't.
Why is it so easy to stress and worry when we know the Lord will never fail us? If you occasionally have nights like I do when your mind wakes you up with worry about the shakiness of the ground on which you stand - ask yourself…” Why would He fail now?” and remember the simple answer:
He won’t!
