Dearest Sonrise Families,

I don’t know about you, but when I think of “Memorial” weekend, my mind instantly goes to backyard bbq’s, pool parties and an extra long weekend to soak up the sun, and time spent with family and friends. And as I thought about my initial response to hearing the words “Memorial weekend”, God placed in my heart the conviction of fully knowing and understanding why we take time to celebrate and honor this special day. It was a reminder of those selfless, courageous men and women who fought tirelessly and endlessly to purchase, by their blood, the freedoms that we enjoy today in “the land of the free, and the home of the brave.” And what a gift those freedoms are. But those freedoms came at a cost, and it reminded me of the ultimate sacrifice that God made for you and I. To take up that cross and die for us so that we may have freedom in Him. Because He said we were worth it! And it was the same for these men and women, they were willing to face these battles, and take the selfless act that they gave up their comforts, their families, and ultimately their life, for you and I. And for that we are so grateful for each and everyone of them and their willingness to pay the ultimate price for our freedom. As we head into this week, may we be thankful for each and everyone who has fought, is fighting and will continue to fight for each and every one of us. And if you see a service man or woman, be bold and courageous to step out and say thank you, thank you for your sacrifice for me, and our country!

So I pray as you head into this Memorial weekend, that you take time to pause, to remember, to pray, and to give thanks to all of those brave men and women who fought for you, who fought for our kids, who fought for our beautiful country that we live in and remember our heroes, and most importantly thank God for the price that was paid by His Son, so that we may be free in deed!

“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”  John 15:13

Love,
