Sonrise Spring Season 2023

Dear Sonrise Families,

Spring is a season of new beginnings, it’s exciting to see the green grass and the blooming flowers. However, sometimes spring can feel like that final stretch before summer vacation. Like many others, you may feel weighed down by expectations and duty. I’ve been reminded of this tale when I've felt overburdened.

This story spoke of a person traveling along a path, following after God and carrying a wagon behind them. During this journey, they encountered many others who were walking the same path but were struggling to carry their wagons. Inside their wagons were heavy rocks weighing them down. Our protagonist offered to take rocks from the other people and place them in their own wagon. The person found that this action felt good and received praise from the other travelers. So they continued taking more rocks until finally, their wagon was too heavy and cumbersome to move. The person cried out to God “why have you made me carry such a heavy load?” to which God replied, “I did not call you to take on this load, in your journey you took on burdens that I did not ask you to.”

It can be so easy to burden ourselves with weights that God does not want us to carry. Sometimes we do this because we are trying to please others or because we want to prove our worth. It’s times like these we need to remember Matthew 11:30 “For my yoke is easy to bear and the burden I give you is light.”

So if you are feeling weighed down this season, I encourage you to take inventory and separate the burdens you’ve placed on yourself from the calling that God has for you. May you find rest and peace in Him this spring.

Love and blessings,
