mustard seed

Dear Sonrise Family,

What a week it has been. In addition to the extreme heat and the new school year, Sonrise has launched 9th grade. Our incredible 13 Freshmen have begun their high school journey, and we are excited for what God has in store for them. You will hear us brag about them often, and you will definitely see them involved. Part of our aim with our high school is to disciple and train our students to become leaders. There is no better way to lead than to serve, and we are looking forward to letting our 9th graders serve in many ways.

God gave Mr. Patel a vision for opening a high school last year. A small committee worked diligently to ensure that we were ready for this time. Mrs. Walulik worked tirelessly to ensure our accreditation included high school so that we could have a fully accredited 9th grade this year -- and we do! Mr. Patel met with countless leaders, led countless conversations, and advocated many times for the vision to take place. Mr. Mendoza poured his sweat and energy (and perhaps some blood) into renovating the Student Center into the Hub, a dedicated meeting and hangout spot just for our Freshmen. Mrs. Sally Morcos, Mrs. Corinne Kreykes, and Mr. Dustin Parsaspolo joined as parent volunteers to work in whatever way they could. And finally, after 56 years of K-8 existence, Sonrise has opened 9th grade.

We want to invite you to join in the celebration of what God is doing. On Friday, September 19th, we will be having a kickoff party at the Hub on the far west end of campus. All of our Sonrise family is invited to celebrate what God is beginning. Our 13 students are the beginning of something amazing that God is going to do. We firmly believe in Matthew 13:32 about the mustard seed, which says, " Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

These students are that mustard seed, ready to grow into a mighty tree.

Thank you and God Bless,

Mr. Wheeler
