Dear Sonrise Family,
I recently came across a children’s book titled The Pout-Pout Fish in the Big-Big Dark by Deborah Diesen. It’s a heartwarming story about a fish who promises to help Ms. Clam find her lost pearl. But on his journey, he’s faced with his greatest fear, the dark. As he swims deeper, he hears a soft, reassuring voice guiding him forward. Despite his fear, he keeps on going and eventually discovers that it was Ms. Shimmer who had been gently leading him all along. Together, they find the pearl, he overcomes his fear and Mr. Fish realizes an important truth: “Two is stronger than one.”
This simple yet powerful story made me reflect on how we encounter fear and trials in our lives. In those moments, what do we do? Are we quick to act out of fear and emotion, or do we pause and seek God’s guidance? The Bible tells us 365 times not to be afraid. Still, I’ll be the first to admit that in times of stress or uncertainty, I often try to fix things on my own... and let’s just say, it doesn’t always go as planned.
I want to invite you to join me in learning to be still and to listen for God’s whisper in the dark. Trust that He is guiding us, just as Ms. Shimmer guided Mr. Fish. Remember, “Two is stronger than one,” and with God, we are never truly alone. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105
