Godiswithyou

Do you remember the first time you learned how to swim, tried to ride your bike without training wheels, or went across the monkey bars for the first time? When I look back on those moments in my life I don’t remember the fear or worry I had, instead, I remember jumping into my dad’s arms, being held securely by my mom’s hands, hearing them say “You’re okay, I’m right here, you can do this.” I trusted and knew full well I was safe with them.

Why is it that, as we get older, having trust like that becomes so difficult? We are quick to focus on the fears, the what-ifs, and the potential for failure. We forget that God is there, just like our parents, holding us, protecting us, and loving us through life’s peaks and life’s valleys. Being still is something I have struggled with my whole life. Finding the calm in life’s chaos is difficult for me and I often need to be reminded to sit back and be still, to trust that God’s plan is bigger for me than anything I could imagine. Just as I knew I was safe with my parents as a child, I know I am safe and held by our Father. We live in a world that tells us to be independent, to rely on ourselves, and to doubt the intentionality of others. While being independent can be a strength, it can also act as a blinder and a barrier, keeping us from seeing and leaning into the one who created us. God whispers every day, “You’re okay, I’m right here,” and yet we ignore his voice, choosing instead to listen to the voice of doubt, fear, and uncertainty.

God may not always give us the answer we want, but he will always give us the answer we need and if we are able to be still, to trust in Him with the same trust we had in our parents as children, to hear his voice, then we will know no matter what we face in life we will be held, cared for, and safe
I pray that whatever peak or valley you are facing today you are able to be still, that you feel the warmth of God’s arms wrapped around you, and that you always remember that God is there whispering, “You’re okay, I’m right here, you can do this.”

Love,
