mothers day

There are teachings in earth and sky and air,

The heavens the glory of God declare;

But louder than voice, beneath, above,

He is heard to speak through a mother’s love.

-Emily Taylor

I hope those of you who are mothers enjoyed a special day yesterday and/or were able to celebrate your own mother!

Being a mom is not easy. Though I fully believe I had the perfect mother, she did not think that of herself. When I read her prayer journals, I am struck each time by her commitment to her faith and family, while facing the same weariness and self-doubt many of us face today. Even to my childish comprehension, I knew from where she drew the strength and courage I saw in her example. I could sum it up in one word:

Jesus.

Jesus when she struggled to learn another language on the mission field. Jesus in financial hardship; Jesus when the world didn’t make sense. Jesus when my brother and I made lousy choices (even when we knew better!) Jesus when the transient life she had been called to left her lonely as friends moved on. Jesus in the mundane chores of daily life.

She wrote:

Oh Lord, consecrate my thoughts - let all that I do today be done for your glory. Sometimes it’s hard to see washing dirty clothes as something that brings glory to you - but you know my heart and my thoughts as I work - I can glorify and praise you as I do my job.

Happy Mother’s Day to you moms who bring your kids to school, pack lunches, drive to practices and games, help with homework, wash dirty clothes, and trust Sonrise to love your most precious gifts during the hours they are away from you, praising God while you do it! Be reminded that He sees you and may He be enough.

With Love,

Mrs. Mason
