Palm Sunday

Dear families,

Palm Sunday is the day we celebrate Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem ahead of his death that would come in the following week. When Jesus sent two of the disciples into the city, he tasked them with finding a colt on which no one had ever sat. The owners questioned the disciples as they were untying the colt to return it to the Lord.

Their simple answer was “the Lord has need of it”—just as Jesus had instructed them to respond. The owners accepted this response and let the disciples go. This is often referred to as the “beginning of the end” of Jesus’s work on earth.

In the coming week, Jesus would make his way to the cross. Suffering a sinner’s death, He was beaten, bruised, and hung on a cross for us. Scripture tells us that the death of Jesus was necessary for us to be reconciled to God, the Father and receive forgiveness for our sins. Scripture also tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:21 “for our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God”. The blood of Jesus that was spilled on the cross is sufficient to give us right standing with God. We could do nothing to earn salvation or justification. Our hearts should be full of gratitude to God for the sacrifice that was made at calvary.

The cross is not the end of the gospel! Jesus Christ not only died but resurrected. It is through the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus in which we have hope to be in the presence of God one day! John 3:16 tells us that God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. I hope that this Friday and Sunday, as you reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus, you would rejoice knowing that our sins have been forgiven and we have the hope of eternal life ahead of us.

With love,
