FINGERPRINT SAFETY PROGRAM-THIS FRIDAY

Child safety is always on the minds of parents, especially when they are unable to be with their child. In an effort to maintain your child’s safety as a high priority, we are offering a fingerprint safety program to all children and their siblings. In the event of an emergency, time is the single most crucial commodity. Please see the Eagle Express to review more information regarding the Permanent Impressions Child Safety Program. They will be on campus on January 27, 2012.

PARKING LOT SAFETY REMINDERS!!!!

Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe!
-PLEASE do not park in the designated red “No Parking” area as you exit the school parking lot off to the left. This is marked off for safety purposes and becomes a blind spot to drivers if a car is parked in that area, therefore creating a danger to our students!
-PLEASE observe the 2.5 mph speed limit in our parking lot! This is for the safety of ALL of the children and adults coming to and from the school. We are ALL in a hurry, it only takes a second for an accident to occur. PLEASE slow down!
-PLEASE be courteous to our crossing guards and parking lot attendants! They are in the parking lot to help our students be safe and to keep the traffic in our parking lot flowing smoothly! When drivers don't follow the parking lot rules, it causes unsafe situations and frustration for everyone!
THANK YOU for SHARING Sonrise!

Thank you for sharing Sonrise with your family and friends! We were able to share the Sonrise Experience with families of potential students! Please help us continue to spread the word about Sonrise!

Special letter from SERENITY HOUSE INFANT CARE HOMES

Dear Families,

It is such a blessing to once again invite Sonrise families to join in brightening Christmas for a child in foster care by providing Christmas gift. Visiting the Sonrise campus was like coming home.
Serenity Infant Care Homes is a private, non-profit foster family agency located in Covina. The agency seeks to end the cycle of abuse by providing homes and treatment for children in foster care, as well as guidance and encouragement to birth families of the children. There is a list of children placed with Serenity in the Sonrise office along with an ornament for each child. Gifts can be brought to the school office. Your donations are greatly appreciated and so helpful. If you have questions, please feel free to give me a call. My contact number is (626) 859-6241.

Sincerely,
Bobbi Thomas

Thank you to Author Doreen Cronin for visiting Sonrise!

Sonrise students enjoyed the pleasure of a visit from author Doreen Cronin on October 4 and she was well received during an assembly with elementary students in grades K-5. Her presentation featured her newest book, M.O.M. (Mom Operating Manual), and she encouraged students, with humorous practical advice, in the daily care and maintenance of their moms. She spoke about her writing process and inspired students to pursue writing their own stories. Afterward she met with students in the library, signed books and answered questions. Sonrise Christian School was privileged to host such a delightful speaker.

The author of many bestselling picture books, including Thump, Quack, Moo: A Whacky Adventure; Giggle, Giggle, Quack; Diary of a Worm; Diary of a Spider; and the chapter book Trouble with Chickens, Doreen Cronin was a practicing attorney in Manhattan when her first book, Click, Clack Moo: Cows That Type, became a publishing success and a Caldecott Honor Book. The author lives with her family in Brooklyn, New York.

ACSI Regional Science Fair at Biola University!

For the first time, Sonrise took both 1st place AND 2nd place in the Life Science Division for 8th grade. Alec Royal came in first with his project on Handwashing Techniques of 5th graders (Thanks, Mr. K!!!) and Ian Petsche took 2nd place with his bacteria project, "Which household location is the dirtiest?" (By the way, it was the kitchen table!!!!!).
The kids did a fabulous job representing Sonrise. There are only 3 winners in that division (and we took 2 of them), and they competed against 40 other schools!!
Mrs. Sheff said, "Out of all those schools, it is just too cool to hear Sonrise's name called out in an auditorium of maybe 1000 people. Thank you, my colleagues at all grade levels, for helping prepare these students. A regional winning science project is a combination of science skills, writing skills, layout design, and interview finesse & you have to be good at all of them at the same time. What a team we make together here!! How awesome is our God & rich in his blessings!"
