Mighty Warrior!
Have you been able to attend one of our all-school chapels this year? If you have, you may have heard our students sing “Mighty Warrior.” My heart was filled with joy the first time I heard my students sing this song. The lyrics say, “Your glory resounds through the age, all saints declaring your great renown. Your kingdom forever will stand. We won’t be shaken. We will not fear.”

Watching the nightly news can make the strongest saint feel anxious and defeated. The world we live in is ever changing and grows more hostile to the gospel message each day, yet the Bible tells us we have a hope in Jesus that will not leave us disappointed. When I hear the students sing this song, its powerful words remind me of the Bible truths we wish to instill in the hearts of our students, your children: “Our God a mighty warrior, You’re a consuming fire; In victory You reign, We triumph in Your name.”

During our tour of Sacramento, the fourth graders sang “Mighty Warrior” on the steps of the capitol building. I reminded the students how blessed we are to live in a country where we have the freedom to express our beliefs openly. I am blessed and thankful for the opportunity to educate children through the lens of the Bible. I am thankful for you, too!

100th Day of School!

100th Day of School! It's hard to believe, but Tuesday, February 10th marks the 100th day of this school year! We are now 100 days smarter! Time is so precious, and it absolutely is a gift from our Creator. It's important to remember that change is an integral part of growth, and God created us to grow!

The mission of Sonrise Christian School is to create an environment in which children can experience the love of Jesus as they grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men. This sounds so simple, but growing in Christ is a mighty task. Have you ever asked God: HOW do you want me to grow today?

If we really hope to grow, we have to understand what it means to gain wisdom and stature.

First, Wisdom is "the quality of being wise; the power of judging rightly and following the soundest course of action, based on knowledge, experience, understanding." Wisdom's importance is emphasized by Solomon in Proverbs 3:13-26. While one should give attention, especially when young, to his education, he should also "give diligence" (2 Tim. 2:15) to gain knowledge of the Bible. We grow in wisdom by committing to spend time in God's Word, and applying it to our lives. Wisdom can also mean making a tough decision to stand up for truth, even when those decisions may not seem popular. It can take patience, but we will grow in favor with God and men for being trusted to make wise choices again and again.

Second, to advance in stature means to develop physically. Jesus developed a strong, healthy body. Our bodies are to be instruments of service (Rom. 12:1; 6:12-13) and temples of God (1 Cor. 6:18-20). In addition to caring for our bodies, we need to learn to love people, no matter what they look like or what position they are in. Jesus associated with all kinds of people including Samaritans and sinners, because He loved them (John 3:16). Jesus powerfully influenced others by setting the proper example of behavior before them. Is there anyone that makes you uncomfortable because they look or act differently than you? We can ask God every day to help us love people as He loves us.

I love being a part of a school that wants children to grow every day! I pray that these 100 days have been full of growing and that you will never stop growing in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and men!

In Christ,
Mrs. Free
